Name: Ruan Huojin (Family, Given)
Pronunciation: /Rahn Hwoh-jean/ (in Mandarin)
(In Cantonese, the family name is pronounced Yun)
Meaning: Ruan - Ancient musical instrument; Huojin - Fire Metal
Nickname(s): Jin /Jean (just don't spell it that way)/
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Studying: AS-Level English, Music & Chemistry
Physical Appearances: Huojin's hair is bright blue (Han blue #5218fa) with streaks of pink (Fuschia #ff00ff) and if left down, falls just above his shoulders. He almost always wears it spiked up and off to one side. His bangs are cut in two different lengths. The top layer has longer, chin length strands are split above his right eye, with most of the hair being worn swept over to the left side of his face and the rest left to fall on the right side of his face. The shorter strands underneath are left loose and fall just above his eyes.
At 5' 7" (170 cm.) and only 120 lbs. (54.4 kg. / 8.6 st.), Jin is severely underweight, even for his body's small frame, which leads a lot of people to think that he is either younger than he is or, like many of his classmates, that he is a girl. His naturally black eyes, the only thing that marks him as ethnically Chinese, are slightly tilted and set wide in a heart-shaped face. His body is naturally thin, almost delicate-looking, no matter that he almost constantly tries to put on weight. His skin is a soft tan that darkens very little in Summer and rarely ever burns.
As if that wasn't enough to make him stand out already, his hands are slightly bigger than a normal human's, with long fingers that he tries to disguise with fingerless gloves or arm warmers. His feet are similarly disproportionate, with elongated toes, which makes finding shoes that fit, difficult.
Clothing Style: Huojin will wear almost anything as long as it's in lighter shades of blue, gray or white. He can't stand dark colors and absolutely refuses to wear anything in yellow or orange as he thinks it clashes with his hair. Red, purple and green are acceptable, but only as accent colors. During the Summer he can most often be found in a more traditional Chinese style outfit consisting of loose pants and a loose top often worn over a tank top.
Once the weather starts to cool, he will wear denim jeans and T-shirts more often than not combined with a hooded sweatshirt. When things get really cold, Huojin piles on the layers, two T-shirts (one long-sleeved) under a sweatshirt topped with a hooded sweatshirt worn over a pair of thermal pants underneath thick cargo pants. And all of that topped off with an over-sized fluffy coat, the only item in his wardrobe that's solid black.
Regardless of the weather, Jin wears something on his hands to try and disguise the fact that they are slightly too big for his body. With the recent fashion trend of arm-warmers, this doesn't draw as much attention as it did when he was little, thankfully, except from his older neighbors who seem to think the 'accessories' look a little out of place with his traditional clothing.

Strengths:
- Hyper - Huojin doesn't know the meaning of the word, "calm". At least his body doesn't. He is constantly bouncing from one activity to the next, regardless of his mood. And when he does manage to sit still for five minutes, you can be assured that his feet aren't. His parents allowed him to join a local theatre group at the age of 10, in the hopes that he would be able to expel some of that energy on stage. Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect and made the young man even more excited.
- Immunity - Huojin has never been sick a day in his life, which to him seems surprising, given his body. He also can never remember getting hurt beyond more than a scratch, though those always heal up very, very quickly.
- Honour - Jin lives by a very strict personal code of honour and if he says that he is going to do something, you can be assured that he will do it or die trying. It also means that every word that crosses his lips is the truth, or at least, he believes it to be.
Weaknesses:
- Tradition - Huojin knows that his father has his life already planned out for him, including, much to Jin's horror, his future wife (though, thankfully, it will be several years before she's old enough to marry). But for as much as he dislikes the idea of his father making these choices for him, Jin doesn't have the courage to stand up to him and tell him so. All his father has to do is tell him it's 'tradition' and Huojin will not refuse.
- Open Book - Jin's emotions always show on his face and are easy to read even for complete strangers. Although he tries to hide it when he's feeling sad or upset, he isn't very good at it.
- Naive - Jin believes that everyone holds themselves to a personal code of honour similar to his own. It always shocks him when he realizes that someone is lying or has lied to him. But regardless of how many times they have lied to him in the past, he is always willing to trust them again.
Fears:
- Disappointing his parents - Even though he may not agree with everything they have planned out for him, he still doesn't want to see that look of disappointment on their faces when he doesn't live up to their expectations.
- Himself - Huojin knows he is different, but he is afraid of finding out who he really is. He has heard enough 'horror stories' from his neighbors and classmates about people who 'go find themselves', that he is quite afraid of even thinking of considering it.
Personality: Jin is hesitant about approaching new people because he worries that his hyperness immediately turns them off. He can't sit still for more than five minutes and has a bad habit of talking expressively with his hands. He's tried sitting on them, but that only makes him babble and bounce in his seat. This tends to make him slightly distracting in a classroom setting, but most of his friends (and teachers) have learned to either ignore him or find something to keep him busy.
He is a friendly person in general and will do all that he can for the people he cares for. He's a firm believer in the phrase 'Every cloud has a silver lining' and even when he's feeling down himself, he will try and help others find the good in a situation. Jin is also a little on the naive side. He will trust that someone will do what they say, until there is evidence to prove that they won't and even sometimes afterwards.
Background: Huojin was born in Hong Kong and is the second child and only son of two well-respected teachers. When he was just a few years old, his parents had the opportunity to move the family to England before their home was turned over to the Chinese Government. Having grown up under British rule and fearing change, his parents quickly agreed. They moved to a section of town where there were several other Chinese families, and the children grew up speaking both Cantonese and Mandarin as well as English.
Jin and his sister grew up happily, even if some of the kids at school made fun of them for being slightly different. When Huojin was 12, his father's cousin sent a letter to him from Hong Kong, containing a picture of a 4-yr. old girl that he later learned was to be his wife once she turned eighteen. It was his father's plan, but his mother seemed only too pleased to go along with it. Since then, the two have exchanged only a few letters, at the insistence of his parents, and Huojin is hoping that something, anything will happen before then to change his father's plan.
